The first day of the World Travel Market saw productive discussions focused on expanding airlift into Saint Lucia and exploring new markets, as stated by Tourism and Investment Minister Dr Ernest Hilaire.
Dr Hilaire expressed optimism about the outcomes of meetings with prominent airlines and tourism authorities.
“Key discussions were held with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic to increase the number of seats out of the United Kingdom during the off-peak season. The conversations have been fruitful,” the Tourism and Investment Minister stated.

The discussions also focused on promoting Saint Lucia as an attractive destination beyond the peak tourist season.
“By increasing airlift capacity during the quieter periods, the island aims to attract more visitors and bolster its tourism industry year-round. This move is expected to contribute to the island’s economy and expand employment opportunities for locals,” Dr Hilaire said.
In addition to discussions on airlift expansion, the Saint Lucian delegation engaged in a productive conversation with the Saudi Arabian Tourism Authority to explore avenues for growth in the Middle Eastern market.
“The conversations with the Saudi Arabian Tourism Authority have been encouraging,” stated Dr Hilaire. “There is indeed room for growth in that market, and we are dedicated to capitalizing on these opportunities.”
Dr Hilaire and the Saint Lucia delegation seek to further enhance its appeal and attract a broader range of visitors throughout the year by actively seeking partnerships with airlines and exploring new markets.
As the World Travel Market progresses, delegates from around the world are expected to engage in further discussions, networking, and collaboration, all aimed at fostering growth and innovation in the global tourism industry.
“Saint Lucia’s proactive stance on expanding airlift and venturing into new markets demonstrates its commitment to remaining at the forefront of the evolving travel landscape,” the Minister said.
