LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 2024 Grammy Award nominations are here, covering new categories, SZA, and “Barbie.” Let’s take a look at who made the cut and who didn’t!
NEW BLOOD?
The nominations for the 66th Grammy Awards are something to love, but there are some notable omissions. Although Reneé Rapp, Peso Pluma, and PinkPantheress had remarkable years, they are absent from the best new artist category. Rapp’s “Snow Angel” was the biggest debut solo album from a female artist this year.
LATIN LOOKED OVER
In a year dominated by música Mexicana, notable artists like Eslabon Armado, Grupo Frontera, Natanael Cano, and Fuerza Regida are surprisingly absent from the nominations. They had songs that could have received nods but didn’t for some reason.
NO COUNTRY FOR COUNTRY
Country music saw massive success this year, but artists like Wallen stand out as obvious exclusions from the nominations, despite their successful year. Wallen, in particular, had a record released in March that spent 16 weeks at the top of the charts.
K-POP STATE OF MIND
Surprisingly, K-pop artists TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Stray Kids, NewJeans, and Fifty Fifty did not receive nominations, despite their No. 1 hits on the Billboard 200.
PRINCE HARRY, WHERE ART THOU?
Prince Harry’s memoir “Spare,” which was narrated by the British royal, sold over 3.2 million copies, yet he was omitted from the nominations in the audio book category.
WHO’S GUNNA BREAK THE NEWS
Rap music lacked dominant releases during the nomination period, with notable artists like Gunna not receiving nominations despite their major hits in the genre.
NOTHING BUT MONÉT
Victoria Monét stands out with seven nominations, showcasing her talent as both a producer and a solo artist. Her nominations are well-deserved.
IT’S RAINING WOMEN, HALLEJUAH
Most of the leading nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards are women, a refreshing representation in the major categories compared to previous years.
