The Tigres del Licey and the Águilas Cibaeñas are set to play a three-game exhibition series at Citi Field in Queens, New York, the home of the Mets. The series, named Titans of the Caribbean, will commence at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, and continue with 1 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday. The starting rotations for the games are scheduled as follows:
Friday: César Valdez, RHP (Tigres) vs. Ronnie Williams, RHP (Águilas)
Saturday: Nabil Crismatt, RHP vs. Ariél Miranda, LHP
Sunday: Radhamés Liz, RHP vs. Tyler Viza, RHP
The rosters for both teams boast players and coaches with Major League experience, along with connections to New York. For Licey, right-handed reliever Hansel Robles, who played for the Mets from 2015-18, and infielder Miguel Andújar, who was with the Yankees from 2017-22, are part of the squad. The Águilas team includes former Yankees’ coach Tony Peña, as well as infielder Starlin Castro, who is a former member of the Yankees. Infielder Jonathan Villar and outfielder Juan Lagares also have experience playing for the Mets.
Also worth noting is that the Dominican government announced this week that the country’s vice president, Raquel Peña, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday’s game, with Hall of Famer David Ortiz catching the pitch.
Additionally, a portion of the profits from ticket sales for the series will benefit the Sports Dream Foundation, a nonprofit supporting youth baseball and related activities in the Dominican Republic and the United States.
