PUNE, India (AP) — Ben Stokes achieved his first century in the World Cup, leading England to victory over the Netherlands by 160 runs on Wednesday, ending a five-game losing streak for England.

Stokes scored 108 runs off 78 balls, with support from Chris Woakes who scored 51 off 45 balls, and together they put on 129 runs to help England reach 339-9 after choosing to bat first. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took three wickets each for England as they bowled out the Netherlands for 179 runs in 37.2 overs.

Despite being eliminated from the semifinal contention, England can still secure a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy with a win over Pakistan in their final game. The Netherlands, on the other hand, officially ended their chances of advancing to the last four of the tournament with the loss.

England made a strong start in their batting innings, with Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan contributing to the team’s early success. Malan scored 87 runs off 74 balls and put on 85 runs with Joe Root, who contributed 28 runs before being bowled out by Logan van Beek. Stokes and Woakes then provided a strong partnership in the later stages of the innings, leading England to cross the 300-run mark.

In response, the Dutch innings got off to a poor start, losing early wickets and failing to recover from the pressure imposed by the England bowlers. Rashid and Ali played a key role in taking wickets and restricting the Netherlands’ run chase.
