A writer for The New York Times Magazine, Jazmine Hughes, has resigned after signing a letter falsely accusing Israel of genocide against the Palestinian people and criticizing the newspaper’s coverage of the country’s conflict with Hamas. The magazine’s editor, Jake Silverstein, stated that while he respected Hughes’ strong convictions, her actions violated the newspaper’s policy on public protest. The letter that Hughes signed blamed Israel for the deaths of Palestinians in a terrorist attack by Hamas, endorsing Hamas’ actions. The New York Times has faced criticism for its coverage of the Israel-Gaza war. Hughes had previously criticized the newspaper’s coverage of transgender issues and another contributing writer, Jamie Lauren Keiles, also resigned. The newspaper continues to employ Soliman Hijjy, who has made pro-Hitler posts on social media, to cover the Israel-Hamas conflict.
