Fox News host Jesse Watters, known for accusations of racism and bigotry, expressed strong Islamophobic views on Wednesday, claiming that he’s reached his limit with Arab Americans and Muslims.

Amidst the escalating violence in Gaza and the growing calls for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, college campuses and cities worldwide have witnessed a surge in anti-Israel protests where posters of Hamas hostages are being torn down.

The New York Times reported that displaying these posters has become a form of activism in order to keep the more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas visible to the public. However, the removal of these flyers has, in turn, become a form of protest, serving as a release valve for those critical of the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. The Times emphasized that these incidents have amplified already tense emotions, highlighting the fervently debated question of whose suffering should command public attention and sympathy.

On Fox News, The Gray Lady’s (referring to The New York Times) framing of the poster-ripping incidents became the top story on Wednesday’s episode of The Five, the network’s most-watched show with a right-wing perspective. Watters unleashed an unhinged and angry tirade, accompanied by an on-air graphic claiming that the “Liberal Media” was supporting the removal of the hostage posters.

Watters began by voicing his opinions on Arab Americans and the Muslim world, attributing their wealth and prosperity to Western influence and technology. He accused previous presidents of attempting to disengage from the Middle East, lamenting that the October 7 terror attacks occurred just as the US was about to withdraw. Expressing disgust, he criticized Arab Americans who tear down posters of Jewish and American hostages, suggesting that violence would be an appropriate response.

He also took issue with the Times article, arguing that they have commoditized suffering. Agreeing with his co-host Greg Gutfeld’s assertion that minorities are given a “free punch” in society, Watters claimed that emotional suffering is being assigned a price tag, leading to a justification of violence as a means to avenge suffering.

Harold Ford, Jr., the show’s resident liberal panelist, added that he doesn’t necessarily disagree with Watters’ statements.
